Porsche Saturday

In the Palmer Sport fleet of vehicles there are something like 50 vehicles which the guests and racing students drive in the pursuit of speed. Naturally some of those vehicles will have problems and engines, gearboxes, and differentials must be replaced. As is the proceedure when these things are replaced it is important to properly 'run them in.' This is a process of gradually building up speed as the mechanical components fit themselves together.

This past Saturday I spent helping the mechanic's at Palmer Sport running in a Porsche which had a new engine fitted. I brought along an onboard video and captured a few laps from the process. If you click on the video you can come onboard and see what I was up to this weekend!

Cheers

Michael

Michael, Just had a chance to watch the entire video and that is incredible. What fun for you. I need to hitch a ride sometime. Hope you're doing well. Marilyn

Thank you for the compliments!!

It might appear at first glance the car is automatic because I never take my hands from the wheel. The car does actually have a manual gearbox, sort of. It has paddle shifters (which are removed from the view of the camera), but it is sort of a manual-auto hybrid. You click to shift, a committe takes a vote, then a week or so later you get your up change. Not so rewarding at times, but the system keeps our guests from blowing up engines.

Cheers!

Michael,
Boy, can I relate to that week or so wait for approval to shift. Quit trying the paddle shift during autocross, per your advice way back when. That wait just doesn't work in that case, as well as many others.
Like that face at the end of the video! :)
